This cheese dairy was taken over by the latest Güntenperger generation in 1999. Roter Teufel, Gwitterchäs and Appenzeller cheese are produced here. Cheese Dairy Bütschwil Exactly 24 years to the day after taking over the Bodmen cheese dairy, Heinz Güntensperger bought the Bütschwil cheese dairy on May 1, 1999. However, this was only because he knew that he had a successor in Reto. Reto had already decided on an apprenticeship as a cheesemaker. In Bütschwil, the largest cheese dairy team produces up to 5 batches of cheese a day, 7 days a week. For taking over the dairy, Heinz was given just half a day's leave from military service, according to today's smiling statement, because he had been so indispensable. Next to the cheese dairy is also the residential house where Heinz and Bea Güntensperger still live today and where their 4 children, including Reto and Marcel, grew up. Today, the Bodmen cheese dairy produces in particular the whole goat cheese specialties. The rustic cheese dairy also serves as a research and development workshop for new cheese specialties. The Bodmen cheese dairy is also very special for the apprentices of Güntensperger Käse AG, because there is still a real alpine cheese dairy atmosphere here. In June 2022, after long and very intensive work, we were able to put our newest cheese maturing warehouse into operation. In the former factory halls, which had been empty for a long time, we were able to build an ultra-modern cheese maturing warehouse for 120,000 wheels of cheese. On 4 places and 32 layers high, cheeses with a long and intensive maturing period can be ripened here under excellent conditions. A visit is an experience. We will personally guide you through the treasure chambers made of cheese and explain many exciting details about the craftsmanship of cheese production and the history of it. Depending on your taste, you can supplement this with an accompanied and explained tasting or afterwards make your own Mutschli or your own fondue mix.
