Güntensperger Käse AG now has a whole range of award-winning cheeses. Over the years and decades, a great deal of passion, dedication, hard work, time and the best Toggenburg milk has gone into the production, refinement and development of our cheeses. We are delighted that this commitment has been honoured several times with national and international awards. We have preserved and refined our family recipes, reinvented cheese and always striven for the best possible. We will continue to do so in the future. Here is an overview of all our award-winning cheeses and the associated prizes.

FIRSTKÖNIG

down-to-earth, buttery, full-flavoured

World Cheese Awards 2021 – Silber

The Firstkönig is an homage to the seven summits of the Churfirsten mountains in Toggenburg. Güntensperger values its surroundings and the naturalness of the Swiss Toggenburg. What would our cheese be without the unique milk from cows grazing on the lush pastures? The Firstkönig has a down-to-earth character, is mild and aromatic, buttery and full-bodied – characteristics that it has acquired during storage in our carefully maintained cheese cellars. For cheese connoisseurs of all ages.

GÜNTENSBERG

classic, delicate, mildly flavoured

World Cheese Awards 2023 - Gold

As the name suggests, this cheese simply represents what we are. Classic cheese-making artistry, handed-down and refined recipes in a generational business, care and devotion from milk production, to cheese-making, to storage, to packaging and transport. A Güntensperger through and through. Made with lactic acid cultures we have cultured ourselves. Underneath the distinctive rind, the cheese is delicate and crumbly, with pronounced grooved crystals. The Güntensberger is characterised by a classic, excellent mild and spicy aroma. This cheese has everything you would expect from a good cheese.

GWITTERCHÄS

creamy hard chees, full-flavoured, stormy

World Cheese Awards 2023 - Gold

Gwitterchäs is one of our best-selling cheeses. It is an exceptionally creamy hard cheese that sweeps over the palate like a stormy gust of flavour with its strong, spicy aroma and fine salt crystals. This cheese combines the Güntensperger's love of experimentation with the experience of generations of cheese makers. The cheese was created on a dark and stormy night in Toggenburg. No one can say for sure what exactly happened on that night, but the critics were easily won over by the cheese.

POTZ BLITZ

Creamy semi-hard cheese, dark crust, savoury

World Cheese Awards 2023 – Silber

Potz Blitz is the younger sibling of Gwitterchäs and, like its big brother, immediately made it into the charts. Compared to the Gwitterchäs, the Potz Blitz is milder. It is an incredibly creamy semi-hard cheese that, despite its young age, already has a hearty spiciness. The Potz Blitz is particularly convincing as a breakfast cheese. mild, smoky, unique

Swiss Cheese Awards 2024 - Gold

The Rauchmutschli is an example of a successful experiment. While Güntensperger maintains traditional recipes and remains true to the traditions of the cheese-making trade, it is also our daring inventions that delight the palate. The Rauchmutschli is a mild Mutschli cheese with a unique smoky note in its rind. In this case, eating the rind is an essential part of the experience. Shortly after the Mutschli saw the light of day, it was awarded gold – smoky, dark gold.

International Cheese Awards 2017 – Recommendation: the best Swiss cheese

What a dare devil. The Rote Teufel has become one of the great classics in the Güntensperger cheese assortment. Even though it never made it quite to the top, its award history shows how popular it is. The Red Devil is an exceptionally creamy hard cheese that literally melts in your mouth despite its age. With its slightly nutty flavour and strong, spicy aroma, it ignites a fabulous taste experience on the palate.

Where the Roter Teufel has already won several prices, the Roter Teufel extra goes one better. Our cheese has indeed won the famous and infamous ‘Super Gold’ award, and nowhere else but at the World Cheese Awards. It has already won three gold medals – at some point it can no longer be a coincidence. The Roter Teufel extra has matured even longer than the Roter Teufel, has a strong flavour, pronounced ripening crystals, the nutty note typical of the devil and a cheese of striking purity. Simply devilishly good for connoisseurs.

Swiss Lady is a creamy, delicate cream cheese – a cheese for everyone. With its light and digestible character, the cheese is suitable for any occasion. Swiss Lady is also one of our classic sales products and is particularly appealing to those who find our more piquant cheeses too strong. Creamy and delicate, every bite melts on the tongue. A mild, delicately spicy note caresses the palate and leaves a lovely flavor in the finish. A pure, authentic taste experience down to the last bite. The cheese has also convinced cheese critics.

The Toggenburg goat is one of our three goat's cheeses – a particularly playful goat, like the goats that provide the milk. This makes it very popular, as evidenced by the fact that it has won this award several times. It is traditionally made by hand in one of our cheese dairies. The finest goat's milk, careful production and professional storage result in a fine, very typical, spicy goat's cheese flavour and a delicate, balanced sweetness. We created the cheese specifically to promote the keeping of native goats, which is why we are particularly pleased about the awards.

KÄSIADE 2021 - Gold

The truffle pearl can rightly be called a very special cheese. Combining the distinctive and intense flavour of black truffles from Piedmont with the right type of cheese was not easy and took a lot of effort. The result, however, is all the more convincing. For two years in a row, the cheese has won gold awards, and regular sales at Güntensperger show its popularity. At the first bite, the intense and spicy nutty aroma fills the palate. Gradually, delicate notes of wood, moss and fresh mushrooms come to light. A high-calibre taste experience.
